Heroines of the Holocaust presented by Judy Winnick

Congregation Beth Evergreen is honored to welcome Judy Winnick as the 2022 Ellen Diesenhof Scholar-in-Residence. Judy will make three presentations about heroines of the Holocaust at the synagogue, 2981 Bergen Peak Drive, Evergreen. All are free and open to the public.

Judy will present her one-woman show as Miep Gies to religious school students at 5:15 p.m.  Wednesday, April 27. Miep Gies is one of the unsung heroes of the Holocaust. This petite Catholic Dutch woman made the choice to hide Anne Frank and her family in Amsterdam during WWII. She became their Beacon of Hope! Miep was born in 1909, and died in the Netherlands in 2010 at the age of 100.

At 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, CBE will host a complimentary Middle Eastern dinner followed at 7 p.m. by Judy’s talk “Ravensbruck, Women’s Concentration Camp, A Story of Courage and Hope.”  Ravensbruck, the only all-women Holocaust concentration camp, housed women torn from over 20 countries. Imprisoned under horrific conditions, these women defied SS authority when they conspired at great risk to commit imaginative acts of resistance. DINNER SPOTS ARE LIMITED AND RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. SIGN UP LINK BELOW.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, Judy will present her one-woman show as Alice Herz-Sommer, followed by a dessert reception. The Sunday event will take place in the new amphitheater, weather permitting.  Alice Herz-Sommer was a Jewish Czech pianist, sage and Holocaust survivor. Her story is not only about surviving the horrors of the Holocaust, but also a story about optimism, music and hope. Alice was born in 1903 in Prague in what is now the Czech Republic. She died in 2014 at the age of 110.

Judy Winnick portrays courageous women from WWII. She is a featured speaker on the Colorado Humanities/Chautauqua Speakers Bureau and has performed internationally. During her teaching career, she received a Colorado Distinguished Teacher Award.
